Introducing Anna Teer

Anna Teer is a freelance muralist, animator, and designer based in Lafayette, Louisiana. Since graduating the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, she's been creating art in Lafayette and the surrounding areas. This includes designing and installing window art pieces within local businesses, collaborating and cultivating murals, and contributing to the production of freelance animated films. Anna's favorite moments are making art, telling stories, and giving back to the community.

Who makes up your artist circle?

Throughout my time spent in Lafayette, I have met incredible creatives that continue to make my life a great gift. All of my loved ones each practice a distinct medium- from photography and videography, to painting, metalworks, and design. I've learned a great deal from the people who love me, having the privilege to explore a variety of perspectives and ideas. To have the gift of insight into different artistic practices has broadened my horizons and helped shape my own artistic journey for the better.

How do you expand your artist circle?

I expand my artist circle by going out into the community, talking to different people, and attending a wide variety of local events. From music shows, figure drawing classes, art markets and fundraisers, there have been so many opportunities in Acadiana that have encouraged community building and support. By being open to new experiences, I have met some of the most wonderful people, many local artists in Lafayette. By being open and honest, receptive to learning something new, and having a strong sense of community, my world has opened up tremendously in the last couple of years.

What value do you see in having a creative community?

To have a creative community means to me that one has a rich life filled with new adventures. Every single one of my friends is a creative of some sort, and by knowing them has changed my life for the better. We support one another when things get difficult, uplifting each other when needed. It is the very freedom of creativity that binds people together. Communities as a whole should have a foundation on creative practice. To understand art making is to understand the processes of life and what the journey entails.

How does your artistic approach contribute to your community?

My artistic approach is my approach to community building. Being open enough to look at something from a different perspective, applying this vulnerability to every relationship I form, has given me some of the most beautiful memories and meaningful connections of my life. When you love something enough, it carries into the way you walk through the world. Through the lense of my creative practice, I choose to be vulnerable and free, both in artmaking and in life.
