Introducing Bethany LeJeune

Bethany LeJeune is an artist whose work consists of mixed media sculptures, installations, and video. She received her BFA at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is currently an MFA candidate at the Vermont College of Fine Arts low residency program. Her work revolves around self-reflection and often takes on themes of femininity, familial relationships, and bodily disfigurement.

Who makes up your art circle?

My art circle is very much made up of movers and makers in the Acadiana area that I have met through Basin Arts and other arts organizations. My art circle is also made up of my peers from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and contains lots of artists working in a wide range of mediums.

How do you expand your art circle?

I expand my art circle by branching out and trying new things. My artistic practice is grounded in exploration and experimentation, and with every new thing I try or skill I learn, I meet someone new along the way.

What value do you see in having a creative community?

Having a creative community is so valuable not only for the culture and beauty this kind of community contains, but also because I find that a creative community fosters growth and is full of the best problem solvers!

How does your artistic approach contribute to your community?

I hope to engage with the community through socially engaged artworks that start conversations around topics important to me and the individuals around me. I also strive to make my artwork more accessible to people who wouldn’t normally attend a gallery opening or go to a museum.
