Introducing Kaylin Anderson

Kaylin Nicolette Anderson is a mixed-media artist from Lafayette, Louisiana, whose creative journey has been shaped by communities across Louisiana and Georgia. After attending a performing arts high school in Georgia, she continued her visual arts education by earning a BFA in Graphic Communications. Now working across painting, graphic design, and beadwork, Kaylin embraces experimentation across each medium. As a freelance designer and artist, Kaylin continues to move between commercial design and personal fine art projects.

Who makes up your art circle?

My art circle is made up of close friends, classmates, and art teachers from elementary school and beyond. It's been a gift to build so many meaningful connections through my visual arts education, and I'm fortunate to still be in touch with those who guided and encouraged me along the way. I love catching up with them, hearing about where they are on their journeys, and sharing what we've been working on.

How do you expand your art circle?

In addition to attending arts events, I mainly expand my art circle by speaking to people and keeping my eyes and ears open. I'm naturally drawn to learning what makes other artists unique and hearing about their creative process. I think some of the best relationships start with simply being interested in someone else's story.

What value do you see in having a creative community?

Having a creative community is one of the most valuable things as an artist. It's what keeps me inspired. Through having conversations, critiques, and sharing ideas, I've found motivation, new perspectives, and wisdom. It's amazing how art can bring together people who would have never connected otherwise.

How does your artistic approach contribute to your community?

I like to think my artistic approach encourages others to be curious and act on that curiosity. While teaching kids' art classes at Scrappie Studio, I always emphasized that exploration is where the real fun is. Get curious, experiment, and keep creating. I hope that mindset encourages people to see creativity as something to embrace, not something to shy away from.
