Introducing Kennedy Walker

Kennedy Walker is a movement artist from Baton Rouge, LA. She received her BA in Dance as well as a BS in Neuroscience in 2022 from Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. Following graduation where she was heavily involved with Tulane’s Dance Department as well as local dance communities in New Orleans, Kennedy moved to London, England to earn her Master of Science in Dance Science at Trinity Laban Conservatoire for Music and Dance. Kennedy’s artistry flourished here as she was able to dive into incredible collaborative experiences while also learning about the physiological backbone of dance as an activity and lifestyle. Since finishing her MSc, Kennedy has enjoyed coming back to South Louisiana and creating with a variety of communities! 

Who makes up your art circle?

My art circle is made of a variety of artists. From sculptors to musicians to digital artists and of course, dancers, I love sharing the perspectives and ideas of the creative people in my little universe!

How do you expand your art circle?

By talking and sharing and collaborating! One of the upsides of this day in age is our ability to share and inspire on another through the internet and I am personally very grateful for that! I think having such a vast in person circle makes it truly ever evolving because through social media, I can still connect with them and pick their brains even when we aren’t together and especially when they are doing other projects/creative things. 

What value do you see in having a creative community?

I think having a creative community is one of the most important things a person could have. Humans are innately community driven, so while creating alone can be beneficial at times, I believe it’s the connection to the community through dialogue and sharing and brainstorming that makes the process come to life! Having a community not only opens up the opportunity for collaboration but also allows for new perspectives and experiences! 

How does your artistic approach contribute to your community?

I think because my artistic approach is centered around experience and is led by conversations, my approach requires community! Additionally, my investigation into themes, ideas, or topics brings the conversation into the community if it wasn’t already there. Then our joint discovery begets more curiosity and conversation. It’s a constant cycle that feeds itself!
