Introducing Corey Frank

Ever wondered who the “Jack of all trades” is? Meet Corey J. Frank. Corey J. Frank is an Opelousas, LA native who's been making his mark in the Arts and Entertainment industry for over two decades. Corey's passion for dance was discovered at six when he watched his siblings dancing at house parties. His interest grew as he watched programs like Soul Train every Saturday morning, American Bandstand, and the movie Grease. This is where he developed his dance style, incorporating line dancing and elements of Louisiana's culture into his routines. During his time in the industry, Corey has worked as a choreographer for various events and venues. He's also mastered teaching liturgical, hip-hop, line, zydeco, and swingout dances — another favorite Louisiana style. The arrival of the social media app TikTok in 2020 gave Corey a new platform to share his talents. A viral video of him swing-out dancing at a birthday party led to several people inquiring about private lessons, which led to Corey's public dance classes at PARC Village in Lafayette, LA. This quickly made him an in-demand dance instructor, and he soon began receiving offers to teach outside Louisiana. In addition to his dance career, Corey owns the Spoken Red brand, where he works as an Event Services Specialist. In this role, he does more than just plan events. Corey also provides branding, media relations, strategic planning, business consultation, and other valuable services. Spoken Red is where he leverages his experience in communications to craft compelling narratives and build impactful campaigns that keep people engaged and inspire positive change. Corey currently does speaking engagements for various causes and corporations. One of his latest ventures includes a statewide opportunity through the Dudley DeBosier Leadership Academy. You can find Corey on the web at spokenred.net, through social media platforms and on YouTube through his podcast brand, To Be Frank FRANK.

Who makes up your art circle?

My Art Circle consists of many creatives within the arts and entertainment industry. One group I value most is the Creative Crew at my church, Love Alive Church Baton Rouge, led by phenomenal leaders, Pastors Derrick and LaToya Morris. Most creatives I am surrounded with are entrepreneurs and are truly some of the most talented individuals I am blessed to collaborate and connect with on a consistent basis.

How do you expand your art circle?

Networking events. My mantra is "For every space I'm welcomed in, my goal is to connect with 7 new people.". Following this mantra has allowed my network to be so extensive. You don't ever know who you are standing next to or sitting with so it's best to make every opportunity a golden one.

What value do you see in having a creative community?

Developing an out-of-the-box experience. When you receive a package from a delivery source, you must open it to see its contents. Leaving the box unopened will keep its contents a mystery, though opening the box unveils the mystery and relieves anticipation. This analogy describes the mind of a creative. When allowed to be open-minded, greatness is revealed; however, when in closed spaces and limited opportunities, the creative genius is hindered. I value the opportunity to be open-minded to release unlimited potential.

How does your artistic approach contribute to your community?

My ongoing approach is connected to my brand, Spoken Red, by bringing amateurs in the spotlight. There are so many talented individuals with untapped potential based on their belief system and their community. Who you surround yourself with matters, and it is best to continue to expand your community continuously.
