Past Community Engagements
Kick-Off Public Meeting
In November 2024, LCG and Basin Arts, along with partner CSRS, kicked things off with a community event at City Hall. This initial engagement invited the community to engage by sharing personal stories about University Ave, identifying important locations along with corridor, and contributing ideas for creative placemaking and public art to be incorporated into the overall revitalization efforts. With this information, Basin Arts and CSRS worked collaboratively to determine available and appropriate sites for public art along the first phrase of this project, from University Avenue and Interstate 10 to University Ave. and Cameron. St.

Here's what we learned from the Fall Public Meeting:
-
The community values personal connection to artwork
and wants to be included in the process. -
University Avenue is the gateway to some of
Lafayette's most important civic and educational sites. -
Artwork should find a way to reflect the past
AND set the tone for the future of Lafayette!

Office Hour Pop-Ups
From June to July 2025 LCG and Basin Arts continued the community conversation with Public Art Office Hour Pop-Ups. These gatherings were relaxed, drop-in style events where community members could connect directly with Basin Arts & LCG about upcoming public art projects in development along University Ave. The feedback received from these gatherings will play an important role in shaping the public calls for art to be released throughout Fall 2025.
