Introducing Taylor Bourque

Updated: Nov 20

ree

Taylor Bourque is a Lafayette-based drummer and audio engineer whose work lives at the intersection of tradition and innovation. Known for his rock foundation and his instinct for blending genres into fresh forms of fusion, Taylor brings a dynamic, exploratory energy to every musical setting.

As an engineer, he works across live sound, studio production, mixing, mastering, and system design, collaborating closely with artists to both realize and expand their creative visions. With a lifelong pull toward both rhythm and sound — playing drums since age eight and tinkering with audio electronics as a teenager — Taylor approaches music with equal parts curiosity and intention.

Rooted in the cultural landscape of South Louisiana, he draws inspiration from honoring tradition while pushing forward modern ideas. His niche skill set often serves as a bridge between diverse artists, art forms, and the final experience presented to an audience.

In addition to his creative work, Taylor serves on the Board of Directors at Basin Arts, where he contributes his perspective on collaboration, community building, and the role of sound in shared artistic spaces.

Taylor is currently handling post-production for a documentary about local Creole musician Jo Hall, debuting at the Acadiana Center for the Arts on November 25th.

Who makes up your art circle?

Musicians primarily, but I’m also inspired by photographers, videographers, visual artists, and chefs.

How do you expand your art circle?

I’m always looking for ways to build bridges — between musical genres and across artistic mediums. I like finding opportunities for collaboration between people whose work seems completely different on the surface.

What value do you see in having a creative community?

A creative community feels essential to being human. It’s how we show ourselves to one another, admire our differences, and celebrate the similarities we share.

How does your artistic approach contribute to your community?

I try to engage with other creatives as often as I can, finding ways my skill set can enhance what they want to offer. I also bring that mindset into the shared spaces we all rely on — performance venues, festivals, and any place where art and audiences meet. My expertise touches many different kinds of artists, so I get to contribute creatively by supporting and elevating the ideas they bring forward.
