YEAR 10 LOADING | YEAR 2, Building Momentum
In 2017 and early 2018, we shifted from laying the foundation to building upward. Year 2 was focused on growing professional dance opportunities in our region, committing to monthly gallery exhibitions in the Basin Arts Gallery, and launching visual art classes and youth creative movement dance classes.
Basin Dance Collective was established as the contemporary dance company within Basin Arts that aimed at enhancing the region through dance performance, teaching, and community engagement. BDC was the first professional modern dance company in the region in over 25 years and it marked a new chapter in our mission to support dance as both a community experience and a professional practice.
While our adult dance classed continued to roll, year two also marked the start of Basin Arts’ Youth Dance Program focused on creative movement for tiny dancers, and visual art classes for adults. Plus, we started hosting the most fun field trips for area school kids which combined creative movement and visual art!
Jaik Faulk became our visual arts curator and our gallery programming really picked up the pace with regular exhibitions. In 2017 into 2018, we presented over 15 artists in the Basin Arts Gallery from within Lafayette and around Louisiana. Also, in 2017 we held our first Art Bazaar on Small Business Saturday inviting local vendors and artists a way to pop-up for holiday shoppers.
