Basin Arts entered Year 6 (Aug. 2021–Aug. 2022) with big steps forward. We hired our first full-time employee, Taylor Elliott @t.c.elliott , our Operations Director in September 2021. Bethany LeJeune @beth._.joy also joined the team in 2021 as our visual arts curator. Under Bethany’s guidance, we launched the ProjectSpace Residency this year, completing our first full artist cycle in 2022 and supporting new, bold creative visions in our space.
Our Window Wonderland project returned for its second year, turning downtown Lafayette into a holiday art walk full of wonder. And, we deepened the performance aspect of Window Wonderland with Basin Dance Collective’s The Best of Days, celebrating the joy, resilience, and beauty of returning to live performance with our community.
We also expanded adult open classes in the evenings, from Contemporary Jazz and Heels to Bounce Fitness and more, keeping our community moving and connected. In year six, Basin Arts created the “basin birds” to offer weekly modern dance classes to students at Bluebirds Ballet Academy!
BARE Walls kept growing, bringing local art into businesses and homes and culminating in a vibrant group exhibition, the first exhibition hosted in the Basin Arts Gallery after an extended pandemic hiatus!
