Introducing Baylee Bourque

Baylee Bourque is a multidisciplinary artist from Lafayette, Louisiana. Her parents owned a brick-and-mortar graphic design and custom car wrap shop, which exposed her to the business ethics of a lifestyle revolving around art from an early age. She began getting involved in the art community at Comeaux High, where she was a part of the AVAA (Advanced Visual Arts Academy) and took every art class available. On a Tops scholarship, she continued at ULL and received a BFA in Visual Art with a concentration in Metals and Jewelry. There she found her niche, loving the glass enamel work that compromised her senior show with over 50 pieces.

She now works as a body piercer and titanium retailer at Socro26 and creates handmade stamps to up-cycle clothes that can be found at advintage thrift downtown and soon online.

Themes she works with include nature’s natural cycles, alchemical philosophy, and personal dream collections. She has a deep passion for human-made magic in all its layers. Baylee’s artistic journey has primarily been in the realm of wearable art from up-cycled clothes, piercing curation, and mask making, which is being pushed to new limits with the residency she has with Anna Teer at Basin Arts, where they are building a performance called “Magic in the Mundane” with interpretive dance and handmade masks on March 14th, 2026.

Who makes up your art circle?

Everyone in my life! From the friends I made in the arts at UL to my spiritual adopted grandmother, all my friends and family have inspired me, conversed or helped me be the creative force I am today. It almost feels like only individuals that can take it beneath the surface and understand the creative process come into my life. I am very blessed for that.

How do you expand your art circle?

The hardest part is showing up. I try to show up to every local gallery opening and show I can. Not just for visual arts but for music or niche community happenings. Showing up and being excited to know other peoples stories expand my connections genuinely.

What value do you see in having a creative community?

A creative community is everything! It’s comfort, expansion and clarity into how you’re neighbors are feeling. It brings people together more then some might think. To have what we have in Lafayette is something to be grateful for, and it will only continue to grow and thrive!

How does your artistic approach contribute to your community?

Recently, threw this residency at Basin, Anna and I have been highlighting the love for the less attractive natural flora and fauna in our ecosystem. While the popular gator and crawfish get undying notice. We are opening up conversations about the glory in wildflowers seen as weeds or insects seen as pests. We hope this awareness sparks new perspectives into the beauty of where we live and helps our community see the small things as magic.
