Introducing Lindsay McAnally

ree

Lindsay McAnally is a pastry chef, artist, and teacher based in Lafayette. She is known for her inventive flavor profiles that celebrate the seasons, as well as her playful use of botanicals and movement within her designs. With the help of Archives Exhibitions, Lindsay has been able to explore the intersection between the visual and culinary arts through art pieces that utilize cake as the medium and create imaginative foodscapes, such as the one for Basin Art’s very own LINEAGE fundraiser.

This October, Lindsay will be officially launching her business, Linds Bakes, a microbakery specializing in luxury cakes and creative food design for events. Linds Bakes will also offer cake decorating classes and gluten-free and vegan options, which have become a local favorite at the Lafayette Artisan and Farmer’s Market. Lindsay created Linds Bakes to give form to her many passions— good food, community, farm-to-table traditions, and the visual and culinary arts.

Who makes up your art circle?

I’m so fortunate to be surrounded by so many skilled multidisciplinary artists, writers, dancers, designers, and curators whom I can call my close friends and wide support system. I think people who have accepted their creative nature tend to find one another and flock together and I’m incredibly grateful for my art circle and what we contribute to each other in encouragement and inspiration.

How do you expand your art circle?

I’m grateful for the many opportunities there are to meet and connect with creatives across Lafayette. I expand my art circle by going to local productions, exhibitions, and art nights and opening myself up to new connections through various events. For example, I’ve met some of the most instrumental people in my development as an artist through a figure drawing workshop event held by the Archives group.

What value do you see in having a creative community?

I believe that humans are inherently creative and having people to bounce ideas off of is so important in finding your way and evolving as a creative. To share in the love of art, no matter the form, is what keeps me motivated to try new things within my practice and experience new ways to be inspired.

How does your artistic approach contribute to your community?

I believe my approach brings vulnerability, a sense of connection, and something experimental and fun to my community and when the art is also something you can taste, smell, and touch, there’s a special type of something, be it joy or introspection, that adds to the experience.
