Year 3, The Year of BARE Walls

YEAR 10 LOADING | Year 3

In year 3 (Aug. 2018 -Aug. 2019), Basin Arts launched the BARE Walls program. The program’s objectives were to provide an affordable way for businesses to have a creative and dynamic workspace, and to provide residual income for working artists in our community. Program Director Dirk Guidry spearheaded the operation and has pushed BARE Walls to be the successful program it is today.

Year Three also brought Movement & Mindfulness to Myrtle Place Elementary funded through a grant from the Lafayette Education Foundation. This year long residency allowed teaching artists to work with every student monthly, providing body awareness and mindfulness practices through creative movement to support a more connected, calm, and kind school community.

Basin Dance Collective was moving forward with their first school tour as part of AcA’s Touring Arts Program, Acadiana Dance Month hosted the second Youth Dance Showcase at Lafayette Middle School, youth classes were in full swing, and BDC presented SURFACE, a dynamic infusion of dance and visual art from Clare Cook, Dirk Guidry, and Brittney Pelloquin.

We also launched T.E.A.M, The Emerging Artists Mentorship Program. T.E.A.M focused on providing graduating college students with mentorship in contemporary art curation and exhibition practices. After their mentorship, these artists were able to present their work in a group exhibition at Basin Arts.

In Year 3 we had 7 full-time artists in residence and 12 gallery exhibitions presenting work from 16 artists curated by Jaik Faulk.
